Born and raised in Trenton, New Jersey, Ray Thomann was exposed to a very diverse array of musical influences at an early age. However, it became evident from the onset, that he had a passion for all things hard rock and heavy metal. His musical influences include: John Bonham, Cozy Powell, Chris Adler, Gene Hoglan, and Vinnie Paul.
Ray has appeared at countless national venues sharing the stage with some of his heavy metal heroes. His musical collaborations include Keith Gibbs (Wicked Emotion / Sasquatch), Rene’ Benton (solo artist), Greg Boccardo (Wicked Emotion / Bleed), Jason Newhart (Blackhand), Mike Fillius (Mastermind / Solo Artist). As a member of Blackhand, he was an intricate part of the band’s first two CD releases. Their first release, ‘Long Road to Nowhere,’ brought the band to a global audience and earned them a number of positive reviews. The band’s second and final release was Mt. Misery. With his departure from Blackhand, Ray went on to host various radio and television programs. He has appeared nationally and internationally on radio, television and internet based programs.
In addition to his musical interests, Ray is an accomplished martial artists and former professional wrestler. He has received countless awards and commendations including an induction into the WKU Hall of Fame (2001), Philadelphia Martial Arts Society Hall of Fame (2017), 8th Degree Master (Order of Combat), and 7th Dan Master (American Moo Duk Kwan Federation). As a pro wrestler, Ray started his training at the Monster Factory in Paulsboro, NJ under wrestling legend ‘Pretty Boy’ Larry Sharpe (WWF). He trained exclusively with WWF star ‘Iron’ Mike Sharp in Asbury Park and with South American pro wrestler Eric Barada, the ‘American Bad Boy.’ Ray’s wrestled in both the independent leagues and with the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) under promoter and then president Dennis Carluzzo. He’s held the Iron Man Heavyweight Championship Title and has been featured on promotions with stars from the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE), World Championship Wrestling (WCW), National Wrestling Alliance, and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW).
Currently, Ray is the drummer for Metal Dojo. He's also the founder of Rock 'N' Java Daytona; which is a national music venue and retail establishment at Destination Daytona. From this venue, he hosts the LET THERE BE ROCK tv show which is set to air in September 2018 in the Delaware Valley market and on internet media platforms.
Ray’s appeared as a guest of such shows as the Irv Homer Show, New World Radio 1540 AM (Philadelphia), EarAche FM, Metal Talk WVLT 92.1 FM (South Jersey), Blog Talk Radio, Mojo Moomey Show and more. Ray has also appeared in such magazines as Metal Edge Magazine, Metal Maniacs, WND, Jersey Shore Magazine, Richard Simmon’s Magazine, NWA NJ, and UWC Wrestling Monthly.
